Timothy de Quetteville is an experienced recital pianist and Steinway Artist. In addition to his numerous concerts in Jersey over the years he has given solo recitals throughout the Channel Islands, in the South of England, Switzerland and some of London’s most prestigious concert venues.
In 1980 he made his professional debut at the Jersey Opera House in a performance of Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto and Chopin’s Sonata in B minor. His main interest is in 19th century piano music and in particular the works of Franz Liszt. His repertoire boasts many of the composer’s major works and includes the two piano concertos, the B minor sonata, works from Annees de Pelerinage Books 1 and 2, the Transcendental Studies, and many solo compositions. Mr. de Quetteville usually allocates a large portion of each recital to Liszt’s music and on several occasions (notably at the Purcell Room) has devoted the whole programme to Liszt’s work. As part of the bicentenary celebrations of Liszt’s birth in 2011 he gave an all-Liszt recital at the Benjamin Meaker theatre and performed Liszt’s First Piano Concerto with the St. Cecilia Orchestra.
Within Jersey, Timothy de Quetteville is an extremely well known and popular pianist – being described once as a local treasure! In addition to many lunchtime recitals at the Jersey Arts Centre, he has given evening performances there at the invitation of the Jersey Music Club and the Channel Islands Music Council. Other local venues he has performed at include Samares Manor (5 recitals for the Samares Manor Music Club), the Opera House (Liszt’s Eflat concerto and Grieg’s piano concerto), and Fort Regent (Liszt’s A major concerto with the Jersey Symphony Orchestra). He has made recordings for BBC Radio Jersey and televised a series of ‘fillers’ for ITV’s Channel Television.
He has also given a number of recitals within the island for charitable causes. These include the John Lobb Memorial Trust, the Jersey Cheshire Home, Jersey Hospice, The National Trust for Jersey, and at the request of a former Bailiff of Jersey, the late Sir Peter Crill, a recital at Samares Manor in aid of King George V’s Fund for Sailors.
