I am at a loss for words.
I'm not sure how to pray for this difficult situation,
but I know you promise that you hear our prayers,
so I want to try praying now.
May we long, not for the smoothness of sand which looks good
and feels flat and is easy to walk on but will not withstand a storm.
May we build our hopes on you, though you may not prevent the storms,
you keep us firm within them.
So, even if we're battered, we cannot fall except
deeper into a crevice in the rock, deeper into you.
you have taught us that we are members one of another
and that we can never live to ouselves alone:
we thank you for the community of which we are a part;
for those who share with us in its activities and for all who serve its varied interests.
Help us, as we have opportunity, to make our own contribution to the community
and to learn to be good neighbours, that by love we may serve one another.
Loving extraordinary God, We are in extraordinary times.
We need to worship, love and serve you in extraordinary ways.
We are called to care for each other in both ordinary and extraordinary circumstances.
We ask for the help and strength of your extraordinary Holy Spirit as we look after ourselves,
protect our loved ones, and seek to care for neighbour, friend, and stranger.
In the name of Jesus, our extraordinary friend.
