Good Friday 2020

Our Good Friday act of worship at Swaffham is traditionally a Churches Together event and includes a walk of witness and dramatic readings. The part at the Methodist church continues with our series Tragedy to Triumph and we watch as the nails are driven into the cross.
In its place, for 2020, here are some items for reflection on Good Friday.
From Tragedy to Triumph
The cross in the (old) church adorned with symbols of Christ’s journey to the crucifixion.

Good Friday Cross by Mike

Here is the whole of StF 287 ‘When I survey the wondrous cross’. The words are included on the video so that you can sing along.

Sandra has found the lyrics and recording to a song from the Jimmy and Carol Owens musical, The Witness. These powerful words are set beautifully to music.

Pure and holy Son of God, Taking on the form of man;
Left the glory of His throne, Came to bring salvation’s plan.
Righteous Father, Holy One, Looking down on us in Love;
Gave to us His only Son, Sent with blessings from above.

But we took Him and we nailed Him to a cross made of wood
And we raised it high and dropped it in the ground where it stood
And the blood that flowed to the earth below
Bought forgiveness for the world that had treated Him so.

“Peace on earth, Good will to men,” At His birth the angels sang,
Love and mercy from the throne Through the earth his message rang.

But we took Him and we nailed Him to a cross made of wood
And we raised it high and dropped it in the ground where it stood
And the blood that flowed to the earth below
Bought forgiveness for the world that had treated Him so.

He came in love to bring us light in our darkness,
He came in peace to bring release from our pain;
He came with joy to bring us rest in our weariness,
He came in love to bring us beauty again.
