THE HILDEGARD MYSTERY
Hildegard was a remarkable medieval abbess who was a poet, a musician, a visionary, a theologian and a healer. As a child she was oblated to the Abbey of Disibod which meant she was separated from her parents and brought up by Countess Jutta von Sponheim at the Abbey. Her fame as a visionary spread and many women came to join her. Just into her forties, she received an empowering vision that encouraged her to speak out about her experiences and insights. After this she became prolific in many areas.
Her beliefs in the connectedness of all creation, original blessing, the power of music to connect us with God, have spoken powerfully again in our own age, partly because of the work of Matthew Fox in the area of creation spirituality. This popularity has led to the formation of the Hildegard Network for people interested in these issues.
