UPDATE ON COMMUNITY POLICING

Nestled in the hub of the Brecklands is Great Cressingham, a peaceful rural village in Norfolk situated twixt the local market towns of Swaffham and Watton.

With a small population under 300 people, it is a charming village full of character, with attractions such as the beautiful Water Meadows, the Windmill, an authentic Victorian School, a selection of historical buildings and picturesque country walks.

Easily accessible via the A1065, B1108 and A47, it is close to popular places of interest such as Richmond Park Golf course and Sandringham Estate.

A Message from the Parish Clerk

Dear All,

Hope you are all keeping well. It’s been a strange year or so . . . As a Parish Council we may not have been able to hold proper meetings up until now, but we have been working together to keep things going. Here is a summary of what we’ve been doing:

Summary of Great Cressingham Parish Council activity – 2020 to July 2021

Village Green and Allotment Boundaries – letter from Pearl Lovick has been received and MJH now waiting for next step from Solicitors

White Gates – in 3 entrances to the Village – Funding now received and now waiting for Highways to install

Defib – Contribution Paid from PC and now installed

Sam 2 Flashing Speed Light – issues with charging it but now resolved and is being moved frequently

Allotments – All have tenants, and we have a waiting list; a few issues throughout year with boundaries but all resolved

HGV’s Sign – Now installed in the areas we required them

Drains – Issues at Waterend – Highways sorted it

Village Sign – Post was rotten, so removed and now waiting for sign to be repainted/repaired – new steel post donated

Church Path – Funding received and Highways have now installed the path from the VH – Church

Street Lights – Various reported broken and fixed – Maintenance Contract renewed

Insurance – Renewed June 2020 + June 2021

Local Policing – Nothing major to report – New local policeman Oliver Button

Accounts – March 2019 + April 2020/ March 2020 + April 2021 Signed and Agreed and signed off by auditors

Highways – New Contact Jack Griffiths

Litter Pickers – Tony Smith has set up a group in the village – PC donated funds so equipment can be bought to help

Plants/Daffodils – Tony Smith would like to plant more flowers around the village – the PC has offered funding for this in September when it will be the correct time to plant bulbs

Village Party – Due to £500.00 funding from the help campaign we are looking at organising a party for the village in October 2021

Village Green – Bench and Gates/Post broken and replaced or removed – Play Equipment Inspected 2020 + 2021

Help Campaign – Due to Covid, Peter Heath arranged for a group of volunteers to help parishioners with shopping/prescriptions/ hone calls etc – £500.00 Funding was received to help with costs (none of this was used)

Playing Field – A chap interested in renting it for Football – PC are happy for them to use it FOC – waiting for VH to sort out costs for VH hire – if this happens a contract/agreement would be sorted out

Grass Cutting – A few issues/delays at the beginning of the year with regards to the Church grounds – but now back on track

Church – Hannah was taking this on as Lavinia was retiring and no one else steeped forward, but now Kate Forsythe has taken the role on. The Church are struggling for funds, if this were to close it would then become the responsibility of the PC – unfortunately the PC cannot contribute any funds to help keep it open so relying on funding/donations – HS has loaned the Church £500.00 ensuring it can stay open until September – giving them more chance to get some funding.

Community Speed Watch – On hold due to covid – hoping to get something back in action soon

Planning – Various – (current one outstanding is change of use to Harvest Lodge)

Village hall Lease – Due to be renewed June 2024 – PC will look at options nearer the time

Meetings have now resumed back to normal – please feel free to pop along.
