Elisabeth Goell

"....a voice as clear as the autumn air with poetic strength, capable of every dynamic nuance and an incredible sensibility......"

Elisabeth Goell was born to Dutch-German parents in Heidenheim in Germany. Her early years were spent learning the recorder, piano, flute and singing in her Prize-winning local choir, however, her formal musical education took place in Ireland. Majoring in piano and organ, Elisabeth repeatedly won the O’Burne cup for piano. She studied flute and recorder as second instruments.

It was only when Elisabeth won the First prize and Lieder-bursary at the Lieder Competition, Dublin that her true vocal potential was discovered and furthered by Paul Farrington and Emma Kirkby, London.

Since then she has been in great demand as a soloist with chamber ensembles and choirs, at Festivals throughout Ireland and as a recitalist throughout the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.  She has appeared at Master Concerts in Heidenheim, Dinkelsbühl, Cork and has performed in the NCH Dublin and the Jaqueline du Pré Concert Hall.

She has worked with international Artists such as Elizabeth Wallfish, John Elwes and Robert Putowski - Cello Octet Conjunto Iberico

She founded the Chamber Music Ensemble “Terra Omnis”.
Apart from the standard repertoire for Soprano and Orchestra she performs less well known music for Soprano and Orchestra, such as Fanny Hensel, Lili Boulanger and Augusta Holmes.
She has received a grant from the Arts Council Northern Ireland to record all 29 songs of Clara Schumann, using the composer’s own piano, which has been in Ireland since the mid-nineteenth century.

Her recordings to date are “Out of the Mist of Time”, featuring music of unduly neglected women composers and with Salto International “Christmas-Women tell their story”, “Clara Schumann - a Life in Song  (under discussion for the BBC Music Magazine).

She has also recorded for RTE Lyric FM.

She has completed the making of a TV documentary regarding the Clara Schumann piano in Ireland with Asset TV, which has now gone out to TV companies around the globe.

Due to her collaboration with Irish Pianist Dr. Una Hunt she has become greatly interested in the forgotten classical Irish composers, which now form part of her repertoire.
In conjunction with Queen's University - Belfast, Lottery Heritage Fund, Arts Council Northern Ireland, National Trust and Bord Failte, Elisabeth is developing her project: "Tales of a Travelled Piano". She is weaving the story of the historic W.Wieck piano in Ireland and Irish historic classical composers into a multi dimensional book and recording.
She is currently undertaking a PHD on the 20th century female song composer Muriel Herbert, also featured on her CD "Out of the Mist of Time" and "Christmas - Women tell their Story" - Salto International

Clara Schumann - A Life in Song - CD review IAWM, Dr. Melissa Tosh
Goell soars with intensity....the pianist never overpowers the singer and the Duo create ebb and flow through effective use of extreme dynamics.  Goell is deeply involved with the poetry, expressing longing, cheerfulness or passion as suggested by text or music...Lauretta Bloomer plays with sensitivity and dexterity, delivering the technically demanding portions with seeming ease....The excellent translations are a bonus to this complete collection of Clara Schumann Lieder, a recording of good quality of value to students, teachers and fans of art song alike.
