Music for a Brass Band (1962) Duration 12 Minutes: A suite of five movements commissioned by the Scottish Amateur Music Association. Intermezzo and Prelude were first performed by the National Youth Brass band of Scotland, conducted by Bryden Thomson, in Aberdeen on 18 July 1963. First complete performance: National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (3rd Section), Fulham Town Hall, London, 16 October 1965.

Concertino for Six Trumpets and Timpani (1965) Duration 8 minutes: Seven sketches written for Peter White and his friends while Dalby was still a student. First performed by trumpet ensemble conducted by Nigel Boddice, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow, 16 November 1993.

Commissioned by the Globe Playhouse Trust¹s Shakespeare Birthday Fund, for the London Symphony Orchestra¹s brass section, and first performed by them at Southwark Cathedral on 30 April 1973, conducted by Elgar Howarth.

Commissioned by the Motherwell District Council as part of their Cultural Services Provision to the Community. First performance by the Motherwell Concert Band, conducted by Tim Reynish, at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow, on 22 September 1990, during the BASBWE conference held there that year. Commissioned by the BBC for the BBC Band of the Year, 1992 and completed in September of that year. First performed by the RSAMD Brass Band, conducted by Nigel Boddice, in the Stevenson Hall, RSAMD, 7 March 1998.
