London premiere by the same orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall on 28 August 1979. The music is based on the Pastoral, Fyvie Castle by the Scottish fiddler and composer, J. Scott Skinner (1843‹1927). First performed by the St James Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Paterson in St James Church, Paisley on 25 November, 2000. Commissioned by the BBC for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, who first performed it at the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall, on 17 August 1991, conducted by Sir Alexander Gibson. First Performance by the Sinfonia of Scotland, conducted by Nicholas Braithwaite in St John¹s Kirk, Perth on the 12 March 1993. Composer or Scottish Music Information Centre (Hire) Cantata: John Clare's Vision (1993) Duration 29 minutes: soprano (or tenor) and strings (minimum 33221) Commisioned by the 1993 Peterborough Cathedral Festival with financial help from the the Eastern Orchestral Board. Part of it was first performed by Ann Mackay with the European Community Chamber Orchestra, directed by Eivind Aadland in Peterborough Cathedral on 10 July, 1993. The first complete performance was given by Penelope Walmisley-Clarke with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk in the Concert Hall, Broadcasting House, Queen Margaret Drive Glasgow on 17 September 1993. This recording was broadcast on Radio 3 on 2 August 1994. Composer or Scottish Music Information Centre (Hire) Adagio for Strings (1997) Duration 8 minutes: (minimum 33221) A reworking for strings of the Hymn that forms the last movement of Dalby¹s Cantata: John Clare's Vision. It was in this form that the movement was heard at the first performance of part of the Cantata in Peterborough Cathedral in 1993.
